If you are on the rota to read, minister the Eucharist, serve Mass or wash the altar linen and can’t make a particular Sunday, please could you ensure that you arrange a substitute or make sure you let the appropriate person know before the Sunday that you won’t be there? From The Buildings of England: North Lancashire by Nikolaus Pevsner (first published 1969):

“St Augustine (R.C.), St Austin’s Place. 1838-40 by a pupil of Scoles called A. Tuach, but greatly enlarged since. The apse is of 1878, but most of the enlargement was due to a campaign in 1890 by Sinnott, Sinnott & Powell. Until then the facade had just the four-column portico with pediment. Now the two towers with their cupolas were built. They are Italian Renaissance as against the original classical features. The aisleless interior with giant pilasters and the fine, boldly coffered tunnel-vault are all of 1890.”

Chorley Hospital

If you are likely at any time to be an in-patient at Chorley hospital and would like to be visited by a Catholic chaplain, we have been advised that you should follow the following procedure:
When you arrive at the hospital and fill in the form which asks for your religion, make sure that a note is made that you would like a visit from the chaplain. Contact the chaplain, Father Stanley, on 01257 262713 [not available on Mondays], or Deacon Simon Gilbertson on 07706 367409, leaving a message on the answering machine [if necessary], giving details of your name and the ward you will be in.
